Palladium has a lower complication rate than Iodine and the same cure rate
Cha IJROBP V 45 No. 2 pp.391-395. 1999

No obvious PSA relapse free survival advantage
Shorter half life of Palladium causes faster return to baseline urinary function (IPSS)

Long Term Complications are much lower with Palladium compared to Iodine
Peschel et al. Rad Onc Inves 7:278-288 (1999)

Radical prostatectomy sexual impotency rates and the need for surgery to repair strictures and to place penile prosthesis and artificial urine sphincters has not improved. Surgically induced incontinency has decreased recently , due to improvements in surgical technique.
Temporal trends in radical prostatectomy complications from 1991 to 1998.
Hu JC, Gold KF, Pashos CL, Mehta SS, Litwin MS.
J Urol. 2003 Apr;169(4):1443-8.

No change in impotence rate, anastomotic stricture rate, placement of penile prosthesis or artificial sphincter
3 year incontinence rate decreased from 20% to 4% (1991-1995)
Length of stay decreased from 8.1 to 5.1 days (1991-1998)
In hospital complication rate (cardiac, respiratory, vascular, wound and genitourinary complications decreased from 38% to 30% (1991- 1998)

Comparison of Complications Summary

Urinary incontinence is lower with seeds than with surgery or external beam radiation of any sort
Sexual impotency is lower with seeds than with surgery or radiation of any sort
Palladium complications are lower than Iodine complications with the same cure rate as Iodine

AUA Acknowledges Seed Option
Middleton J, Thompson I, Austenfeld M, et. al. Prostate Cancer Clinical Guidelines Panel Summary Report On the Management Of Clinically Localized Prostate Cancer. J Urol 1995;154:2144-2148.

In 1995, the American Urological Association recommended that patients with clinically localized prostate cancer be informed of the option of radioisotope seed implants.
