Men with early stage prostate cancer have several treatment options. Permanent seed brachytherapy has the same PSA control rate as radical prostate surgery but with a lower complication rate (urine leakage and sexual dysfunction) and a much faster recovery time. Seed implant is an outpatient procedure that, unlike surgery, does not require an overnight hospital stay and rarely requires the home use of a urinary catheter.

This website details the advantages of permanent seed brachytherapy enhanced by advanced computerized technologies pioneered by Dr. Stephen Doggett and colleagues.

1. Intraoperative treatment planning
2. Prostascint/MRI image fusion
3. Nerve sparing brachytherapy

These cutting edge technologies are designed to increase the accuracy of seed positioning and to decrease complications. These complex technologies require a radiation oncologist with expertise in brachytherapy, computerized treatment planning and interpretation of fusion images.

Intraoperative treatment planning uses a computer in the operating room to measure the exact shape and position of the prostate.

Prostascint is an antibody to prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA).

The neurovascular bundles that control erection run on either side of the prostate gland.
